Wegmans Food Markets is seeking approval from the Town of Harrison to construct a new 20,000-square-foot retail building and create an additional access connection to Manhattanville Road at its 106 Corporate Park Drive location.
The proposed building would replace an existing 11,000-square-foot structure formerly used as a child day care center, which would be demolished. Plans also include a redesigned parking area near the new building, increasing spaces from 44 to 71 and raising the total number of parking spaces on the 20.35-acre site from 776 to 803. A new loading area is also proposed.
Anthony B. Gioffre III of the White Plains–based law firm Cuddy & Feder, representing Wegmans, told the Harrison Planning Board that the new building would be used for retail purposes and could potentially house a wine store. He noted that updated traffic studies show the site is generating significantly less traffic than originally projected when the store was first approved.
“The proposed driveway reconfiguration and opening (with Manhattanville Road) will also benefit the surrounding roadway network by providing improved access to and from I-684 and the Hutchinson River Parkway,” Gioffre said. “The reconfigured access will provide a faster, more direct connection for the local emergency responders.”
Wegmans also proposes roadway and infrastructure improvements along Manhattanville Road, including repaving, new curbing, landscaping, safety enhancements, and repairs to non-functioning streetlights.
According to Gioffre, the overall proposed site improvements are expected to result in a net benefit to both the site and the surrounding community by improving access and adding complementary commercial space.
