Andrew Schriever speaking at NYSBA House of Delegates Meeting

On January 31, 2020, the New York State Bar Association adopted a report from its Committee on Cannabis Law supporting the legalization of adult cannabis use in New York at its House of Delegates meeting in New York City.

Cuddy & Feder Partner Andrew Schriever took the floor in favor of the proposal for the NYSBA to endorse adult use legalization.

“The way to safely control the distribution of any product is through regulation,” said Andrew Schriever, Partner at Cuddy & Feder. “New York State has the opportunity to be a leader in getting a cannabis market right, including by preventing marketing and access to minors and by creating opportunities for economic growth and participation in the new marketplace for individuals and communities that have been disproportionately impacted by unequal enforcement of cannabis laws.”

The proposal presented to NYSBA by Aleece Burgio, who co-chairs the Cannabis Law Committee, asked for the adoption of its position to legalize adult use in New York State. The 23-page detailed report from the Committee provides strategies for implementation and offers recommendations surrounding safety, research, social equity and taxation.
